Dakar Records was founded in 1967 by Carl Davis as a Brunswick subsidiary imprint, becoming the home of Tyrone Davis's hit 'Can I Change My Mind' and the label's deep-soul roster. Dakar's roster included Tyrone Davis, Hamilton Bohannon, and other Chicago soul artists, anchoring the city's late-1960s/early-1970s soul sound before Davis moved on to Chi-Sound.
