Chicago house producers circulated acetates and white labels to club DJs for floor-testing before commercial release — a pre-release quality-control system run through the Warehouse, Muzic Box, and Power Plant. The acetate circuit made dancers unwitting A&R — crowd response determined what got pressed, inverting the normal label-then-audience sequence.
