Neighborhood basketball — DuSable "Wonder Five" and South Side playground ball

CTL-E-1312 · Practice · other · 1935–1990

PROVISIONAL evidence grade of this record

Basketball as everyday Black Chicago practice: school teams as community institutions, playground and park-district ball, and the pipeline from neighborhood courts to city prominence. DuSable High's 1954 "Wonder Five" — first all-Black team led by a Black coach to reach an integrated state final — as community touchstone.
