Black mariner who sailed between New York and Liverpool; initiated into Odd Fellowship at Victoria Lodge No. 448 in Liverpool; petitioned the English Grand United Order of Oddfellows for a charter and became the first Grand Master of Philomathean Lodge No. 646 (1843), founding the Black Odd Fellows order in America; died November 29, 1852.
