VERIFIED evidence grade of this record

The Obama Presidential Center is the Obama Foundation's presidential center and civic campus in Jackson Park, on Chicago's South Side: a 19.3-acre complex of a museum, a forum, a branch of the Chicago Public Library, and the Home Court athletic center, set in gardens around the John Lewis Plaza. Washington Park was weighed for the site before the Foundation selected Jackson Park. The center broke ground on September 28, 2021, was dedicated on June 18, 2026, and opened to the public the next day — Juneteenth, June 19, 2026. Its museum, anchored by a 225-foot tower, traces American democracy, the civil rights movement, and the Obama presidency. Unlike the presidential libraries administered by the National Archives, the center is a private foundation campus and does not house the federal presidential archives. CultureTechLens research followed the center's contested siting in the Jackson Park dossier for a decade before it opened.

Notes

Staged 2026-10-15 under CTL-GOV-006; Gate A clear (distinct from Barack Obama, CTL-E-0079, as the scan's Gate-A note anticipated); Gate B met (3 sources). Type decision: the schema has no Place type; the Center is a named institution operated by the Obama Foundation whose core public function is a museum — Institution, subtype museum, the same typing as the DuSable Black History Museum (CTL-E-0195). CTL treatment: siting subject in CTL dossier CTL-RD-PLACE-000001 (Washington Park weighed; Jackson Park selected); subject of 15 CTL research files (24 mentions) per the 2026-10-15 corpus gap scan. Statistics carried: 19.3-acre campus (Obama Foundation preview; USA Today Network, checked 2026-10-15); 225-foot museum tower (Construction Review Online; architecture reporting). Cost figures are NOT carried: contemporary reporting splits between roughly $850 million in construction cost and a Foundation-stated total of approximately $1 billion; the conflict is named in the packet red team rather than resolved by assertion. Status is dated: opened June 19, 2026.
