Bubba Wallace
VERIFIED evidence grade of this record
Darrell 'Bubba' Wallace Jr. (born October 8, 1993, in Mobile, Alabama) is a NASCAR Cup Series driver who carries the timeline's final stop — the only entry in the paste with neither date nor event, a person filed as a milestone in himself. Wallace rose through NASCAR's Drive for Diversity program and its regional series, winning six races in the Truck Series, and in 2018 became the first Black driver in four decades to race full-time in the Cup Series. In 2020, as the sport convulsed with the country, Wallace pressed NASCAR to ban the Confederate flag at its events — which it did — and drove a Black Lives Matter paint scheme; weeks later a noose was found in his garage stall at Talladega, an episode the FBI ultimately attributed to a pre-existing pull rope but which forced the sport to stand behind its only Black driver in a public walk of solidarity down pit road. On October 4, 2021, at Talladega, Wallace won the YellaWood 500 — the first Black driver to win a Cup Series race since Wendell Scott in 1963. He drives the No. 23 for 23XI Racing, the team co-owned by Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin.

Notes
Statistics: First Cup Series win: October 4, 2021, Talladega Superspeedway (Britannica; AP). The intake paste leaves stop #45 UNDATED and eventless — flagged in the audit as a person entry; the anchor date is supplied here. Classification: Person, subtype 'other' — the schema carries no athlete subtype, and none was invented for this merge (schema changes are a separate, reviewed step). · Curator's Judgment: DRAFT — for founder review: The timeline ends, fittingly, with a man still racing. Wallace's stop is the graph's proof of method: an undated name on a pasted list becomes a dated, sourced record — the flag fight, the garage, the fifty-eight-year gap between his win and Wendell Scott's — with nothing padded and nothing borrowed. · Photo slot: HELD — no rights-cleared image was verified for this record in the merge run's bounded Commons sweep (2026-10-15); slot stays HELD until a cleared image is obtained (commons upload, public-domain government portrait, or CTL original), per CTL-PHOTO-001.
