The 78th Tony Awards were presented on June 8, 2025, at Radio City Music Hall, hosted by Cynthia Erivo and broadcast on CBS. The CTL record is verified against the official winners list at tonyawards.com. The night's headline production honors went to Maybe Happy Ending as Best Musical and to Purpose as Best Play, and the evening's special honors included a Lifetime Achievement Award for Harvey Fierstein and the Regional Theatre Tony for The Muny of St. Louis. Five graph persons attach to this ceremony, and as with the graph's other Tony events, their honors come in distinct forms that this entry keeps distinct.

Two of them run through a single play. Purpose, Branden Jacobs-Jenkins's family drama, won Best Play; Jacobs-Jenkins's edge is stated in the authorship form — he is the play's author, and the award belongs to the work — exactly as this program stated his Appropriate credit in the 2024 batch. Kara Young won Best Featured Actress in a Play for Purpose. On the musical side, Natalie Venetia Belcon won Best Featured Actress in a Musical for Buena Vista Social Club, in the stage life of the beloved Cuban band, and Paul Tazewell won Best Costume Design of a Musical for Death Becomes Her.

Robinson's biography, as Carnegie Mellon's announcement tells it, is a theatre life entire. A St. Albans, Queens native, he was eight years old when he tap-danced onto a stage in dance teacher Gloria Jackson's annual recital, stopped under the spotlights, and, in his own account, never looked back. At Boys and Girls High School in Brooklyn he built the Theatre Arts Program he now heads, including a Career and Technical Education pathway through which his students shadow working Broadway professionals, alongside programs that take students — many from underserved communities — to Broadway and Off-Broadway productions, films, and college tours. The award's terms are concrete: ten thousand dollars for the school's program, tickets to the ceremony and gala, and a visiting master class for his students taught by Carnegie Mellon drama faculty.

The presenters' joint statement, carried in the announcement, gives the honor its rationale in one line: Robinson "not only delivers a powerful arts curriculum in the classroom, but he also brings students to meet the arts where they live onstage, backstage, in the community and in the world." Set beside the night's competitive wins — a playwright's Best Play, a featured actress doubling the honor for the same production, a costume designer and a featured musical actress at the top of their crafts — the education award completes the 2025 record the way this graph wants it kept: the season's excellence, and the pipeline that produces the next season's, honored in the same room on the same night.

The fifth honoree is honored in a form this program treats with the same care as its category wins. Gary Edwin Robinson received the 2025 Excellence in Theatre Education Award, presented by the Tony Awards and Carnegie Mellon University: Robinson heads the Theatre Arts Program at Boys and Girls High School in Brooklyn, and the award, announced on May 29, 2025, carries ten thousand dollars for his school's program and was presented to him at the 78th ceremony. A teaching honor belongs in a cultural-intelligence graph for the same reason a costume design does — it records where the culture is actually reproduced. CTL holds the 2025 Tony Awards as a VERIFIED event record — the 78th ceremony, June 8, 2025 — with each edge in its exact official form: two Purpose honors (one authorship, one featured acting), two musical honors, and one education award.
