The 73rd Tony Awards were held June 9, 2019, at Radio City Music Hall in New York, hosted by James Corden and broadcast on CBS. The official winners record, the master verification source for this record, anchors the night to one production: Hadestown, Anaïs Mitchell's folk opera of Orpheus and Eurydice, directed by Rachel Chavkin, won eight awards from fourteen nominations, including Best Musical. Among them sits the first of this record's three graph-confirmed Black honors: André De Shields won Actor in a Featured Role (Musical) for his performance as Hermes, the show's narrator — the first Tony of his long career, as coverage of the night noted.

The other two graph honors are special awards, and this record states them in their precise official forms. Harold Wheeler received a Special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre, presented in a class with Rosemary Harris and Terrence McNally — recognition for a career as one of Broadway and television's defining orchestrators and musical directors. Jason Michael Webb received a Special Tony Award, cited in the record “for his outstanding vocal arrangements for Choir Boy” — Tarell Alvin McCraney's play with music, set at a Black prep school, whose a cappella sound Webb built. Theatre Development Fund's nominations record confirms both special-award listings in the same forms. Best Play went to Jez Butterworth's The Ferryman — an authorship credit, stated here as such rather than as a personal acting honor — which also won Best Direction of a Play for Sam Mendes. Santino Fontana (Tootsie) and Stephanie J. Block (The Cher Show) took the leading musical acting awards; Bryan Cranston (Network) and Elaine May (The Waverly Gallery) the leading play awards; Ali Stroker's featured-actress win for Oklahoma! made her the first performer who uses a wheelchair to win a Tony. Judith Light received the Isabelle Stevenson Award; the Regional Theatre award went to TheatreWorks Silicon Valley; and Tony Honors included Broadway Inspirational Voices.

Read as a set, the 2019 graph honors map three different kinds of Black theatrical labor: the featured performance inside the year's dominant musical, a lifetime of orchestration and musical direction, and the vocal architecture of a Black play. All three are confirmed against the official record, with the special awards carried in their exact honor forms rather than as competitive category wins.

Hadestown's eight wins, itemized in Front of House's account of the night, ran beyond the top prizes: Anaïs Mitchell's score, Rachel Chavkin's direction, Bradley King's lighting, Rachel Hauck's scenic design, and the sound design of Nevin Steinberg and Jessica Paz — a sweep of the craft categories behind De Shields's featured performance. The ceremony also gave a Special Tony Award to Sonny Tilders and Creature Technology Company for the King Kong puppet, and to Marin Mazzie; Ain't Too Proud's Sergio Trujillo won the choreography award. Ali Stroker's featured-actress win, for Oklahoma!, is carried in the main text above for its own record-book reason. Against that full slate, the three graph honors stand in three distinct forms — a competitive acting win, a lifetime-achievement salute, and a special award for a named craft contribution to a named play — and this record has kept the forms distinct, because the program's standing rule is that special honors are stated precisely and never blended into category wins. All three are confirmed against the official winners record; the TDF nominations record corroborates the special-award listings in the same words. For the ceremony's own frame: the production was produced by James Corden, Ricky Kirshner, Glenn Weiss, and Ben Winston and directed by Weiss, and its CBS broadcast drew 5.4 million viewers, per the reference record of the 73rd ceremony.
