The UrbanGeekz account of Forbes's 2025 list of American Black billionaires, the master verification source for this record, introduces Adebayo Ogunlesi as founding partner, chairman, and chief executive of Global Infrastructure Partners — GIP — with a Forbes 2025 net worth figure of $2.2 billion, and a companion source in the master record adds the transaction that redefined his career: BlackRock's $12.55 billion acquisition of GIP, closed October 1, 2024, with Ogunlesi continuing to lead GIP. CultureTechLens's graph records him on its Black Billionaires list and as founder of GIP. The fortune matters to this archive because of its form: not entertainment, not inheritance, but airports, ports, and railways — the infrastructure other people's economies run on.

Ogunlesi was born December 20, 1953, in Ibadan, Nigeria, the son of Theophilus O. Ogunlesi, the first Nigerian professor of medicine at the University of Ibadan. (Some secondary accounts name Sagamu, his parents' place of origin, as his birthplace; the weight of the biographical record, including BlackRock's, supports Ibadan, and this record follows it.) Educated at King's College, Lagos, he took a first-class degree in philosophy, politics, and economics at Oxford, then did something almost no one does: a Harvard law degree, magna cum laude with service on the Harvard Law Review, and a Harvard MBA, completed in 1979. He clerked for Justice Thurgood Marshall on the United States Supreme Court — a Nigerian-born clerk for the justice who had argued Brown v. Board — then practiced at Cravath, Swaine & Moore. Claims that he was a Rhodes Scholar circulate in weak secondary sources and are not supported by BlackRock's biography or the reference record; this archive does not carry them.

Banking consumed the next two decades: some twenty-three years at Credit Suisse, rising to head of global investment banking (2002–2004) and executive vice chairman and chief client officer. In 2006 he co-founded GIP. The firm bought London City Airport in 2006 and a majority stake in Gatwick in 2009 for roughly £1.5 billion — the deal that made him, in the British press phrase, the man who bought Gatwick — then Edinburgh Airport and Italian high-speed rail interests, passing $100 billion in assets under management by 2024. After the BlackRock acquisition closed, he remained GIP's chairman and CEO while joining BlackRock as a senior managing director, member of its global executive committee, and board member. His board service includes OpenAI, joined in January 2025, and previously the lead directorship of Goldman Sachs. Wealth figures for Ogunlesi vary by list and date — the Forbes 2025 framing in the master source gives $2.2 billion, with later 2025 tallies running higher — and this record dates the figure it quotes rather than presenting any single number as current.

Two later chapters round out the record. In December 2016 the president-elect's transition named Ogunlesi to the President's Strategic and Policy Forum, the business advisory council announced by the Blackstone-led group — a measure of how completely the Nigerian-born banker had become an American establishment figure. He has also taught: his biography records lectureships at Harvard Law School and the Yale School of Organization and Management on transnational investment in emerging markets, the classroom version of the GIP thesis. On the money itself, the archive's discipline is dating: Forbes's 2025 list, carried by the master source, gives $2.2 billion; Forbes-derived reporting later in 2025 placed him near $2.4 billion on its richest-immigrants tally. Both are list artifacts with dates attached, and this record prints them that way. His current board portfolio, per BlackRock's biography, extends beyond the firm: OpenAI, Topgolf Callaway, and Kosmos Energy — a director's map of the sectors, energy and computation among them, that the GIP thesis touches.
