Quentin Richardson, born Quentin Lamar Richardson on April 13, 1980, in Chicago, Illinois, is an American former professional basketball player. At Whitney Young High School he led the Dolphins to the 1998 IHSA Class AA state championship and was named a McDonald's All-American. At DePaul he became the only player in school history with 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, and 100 three-pointers, winning both Conference USA Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year in 1999 along with USBWA National Freshman of the Year. Selected 18th overall by the Los Angeles Clippers in 2000, he played thirteen NBA seasons for the Clippers, Phoenix Suns, New York Knicks, Miami Heat, and Orlando Magic, and won the NBA Three-Point Contest at All-Star Weekend in 2005. His career totals are 8,032 points, 3,666 rebounds, and 1,138 assists. After retiring he served as director of player development for the Detroit Pistons (2014–2016) and played in the BIG3. Richardson's teenage years were marked by family tragedy — his mother, grandmother, and a brother all died in 1992, and another brother was murdered in 2005 — which he has spoken about publicly as the ground of his perseverance.
