Jaafar Jackson, born 25 July 1996 in Los Angeles, California, is an American singer and actor, the son of Jermaine Jackson and the nephew of Michael Jackson. Raised inside one of popular music's most famous families, he began playing piano at age twelve and developed as a singer before releasing his debut single, "Got Me Singing," in 2019. In January 2023, after a worldwide casting search, Lionsgate announced that he would portray his uncle Michael in the biographical film Michael, directed by Antoine Fuqua and written by John Logan — his first acting role. The production cast him, in producer Graham King's account, because he personified his uncle's spirit and personality beyond any candidate found in the search. Michael premiered in Berlin on 10 April 2026 and was released in the United States on 24 April 2026, covering Michael Jackson's life from the Jackson 5 years through the Bad tour era. For the musical sequences Jaafar sang live over his uncle's recordings, blending his own voice with the original tracks. The role made a first-time actor the screen bearer of his own family's story.
