Love Can't Turn Around is a 1986 Chicago house recording by Farley “Jackmaster” Funk with producer Jesse Saunders, featuring the lead vocal of Darryl Pandy, released on Chicago's D.J. International Records. Farley built the track after hearing Steve “Silk” Hurley's house version of Isaac Hayes's “I Can't Turn Around”: he kept the bassline riff from Hayes's original, changed the hook from “I Can't Turn Around” to “Love Can't Turn Around,” and substituted new words by Vince Lawrence; through a later agreement with Universal Music, Hayes's song is now officially credited as the work's inspiration. Pandy, a Chicago singer with a Broadway and opera background, performed the song in its video and on Britain's Top of the Pops. Released in the United Kingdom by London Records, the record entered the UK Singles Chart in August 1986 and peaked at No. 10, becoming the first house record to cross over from American clubs onto the UK Singles Chart, and a 1996 re-release reached No. 40. Its success carried the Chicago house sound to a mainstream British audience years before house music charted at home.
