Giannis Antetokounmpo, born Giannis Sina Ugo Adetokunbo on 6 December 1994 in Athens, Greece, is a Greek-Nigerian professional basketball player for the Miami Heat. Born and raised in Athens to Nigerian parents, he played for Filathlitikos before Milwaukee selected him 15th overall in the 2013 NBA draft. Nicknamed the Greek Freak for his size, speed and ball-handling, he won Most Improved Player in 2017, consecutive league Most Valuable Player awards in 2019 and 2020, and Defensive Player of the Year in 2020 — only the third player to win MVP and Defensive Player of the Year in the same season. In 2021 he led Milwaukee to its first championship since 1971 and was unanimous Finals MVP; he left the Bucks as their all-time leader in points, rebounds, assists, blocks, games and minutes, with ten All-Star selections. In June 2026 Milwaukee traded him and Bobby Portis to Miami, and he began the 2026-27 season ranked among the league's top power forwards with the Heat.
