Russell Westbrook, born 12 November 1988 in Long Beach, California, and raised in the Los Angeles area, is an American former point guard who retired in August 2026 as the NBA's all-time leader in triple-doubles. After Leuzinger High School in Lawndale and two seasons at UCLA, reaching consecutive Final Fours, he was drafted fourth overall in 2008 by Seattle, just before the franchise became the Oklahoma City Thunder. In eleven seasons in Oklahoma City he won the 2016-17 Most Valuable Player award, averaging a triple-double that season — a feat he repeated three more times — and set the single-season record with 42 triple-doubles. A nine-time All-Star, two-time scoring champion and three-time assists leader, he later played for Houston, Washington, the Los Angeles Lakers, the Los Angeles Clippers and Denver before closing with Sacramento in 2025-26, averaging 15.2 points, 6.7 assists and 5.4 rebounds in 64 games. He won Olympic gold at London 2012, was named to the NBA 75th Anniversary Team, and founded the Why Not? Foundation in 2012 for underserved communities in Los Angeles and beyond. He finished with 209 career triple-doubles.
