Damar Hamlin, born Damar Romeyelle Hamlin on 24 March 1998 in McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania, is an American football safety for the Buffalo Bills. He attended Pittsburgh Central Catholic High School and played at the University of Pittsburgh, earning second-team All-ACC honors in 2020, before Buffalo selected him in the sixth round, 212th overall, of the 2021 NFL Draft. After a season as a backup he became a starter in 2022. On 2 January 2023, during a Monday Night Football game at Cincinnati, he suffered a cardiac arrest after making a tackle; his heartbeat was restored on the field, he was hospitalized in critical condition, and he was released from hospital nine days later. The episode was later attributed to commotio cordis, a rare disruption of the heart's rhythm caused by a blow to the chest. Cleared to play in April 2023, he returned during the 2023 season, started throughout 2024, and became a national advocate for CPR training and AED access through his Chasing M's Foundation. Buffalo re-signed him on a one-year deal in March 2026 for the 2026 season.
