Warren Moon (born November 18, 1956, Los Angeles) is the quarterback whose career exposed and then outlasted the NFL's refusal to draft Black quarterbacks. At the University of Washington he was named MVP of the 1978 Rose Bowl, yet no NFL team drafted him, so he began his professional career in Canada, leading the Edmonton Eskimos to five consecutive Grey Cup championships (1978–1982), a CFL record, and winning two Grey Cup MVP awards. He then played seventeen NFL seasons, principally for the Houston Oilers (1984–1993), with later stops in Minnesota, Seattle, and Kansas City before retiring in 2000. Moon was named to nine Pro Bowls, was the NFL's Offensive Player of the Year in 1990, and threw for 49,325 NFL passing yards. In 2006 he became the first Black quarterback, and the first undrafted quarterback, inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame; he remains the only player in both the Pro Football and Canadian Football Halls of Fame.
