Let's Get It On is the twelfth studio album by singer and songwriter Marvin Gaye, released August 28, 1973, on Tamla, the Motown subsidiary label. Recorded in Detroit at Hitsville U.S.A. and Golden World and in Los Angeles at Hitsville West across sessions running from 1970 into 1973, and produced by Gaye with Ed Townsend, the eight-track album followed the socially conscious What's Going On with a turn toward funk, smooth soul, and songs of desire that Gaye framed in spiritual terms. Its singles were the title track, a number-one pop and R&B hit, 'Come Get to This,' and 'You Sure Love to Ball.' The album became the most commercially successful of Gaye's Motown career, widened his creative control at the label, and helped establish the slow-jam idiom in later R&B. It was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2004 and reissued in expanded editions, including a 50th-anniversary release in 2023.
