Larry Clark is an American filmmaker of the L.A. Rebellion, the Los Angeles School of Black Filmmakers — not Lawrence Donald Clark, the Tulsa-born photographer who directed Kids. Born in Ohio and raised in Cleveland, he took a bachelor's degree at Miami University, where he was president of the Black Student Union, then drove to Los Angeles to enrol at UCLA. Sources conflict on his MFA year: the UCLA Film & Television Archive lists 1977, while UCLA Newsroom lists 1981, and this packet does not blend them. His first feature, Passing Through (1977), made as his UCLA master's thesis film, follows jazz musician Eddie Warmack, released from prison, refusing the mob-controlled music business and seeking his mentor Poppa Harris; the Archive credits Clark as director, producer, writer and editor, and he co-wrote the screenplay with Ted Lange. The film won the Special Jury Prize at the Locarno International Film Festival and entered the National Film Registry in 2023. Earlier he directed As Above, So Below (1973); his second feature was Cutting Horse (2002). He later taught film at San Francisco State University.

Notes
Staged 2026-10-16 under CTL-GOV-006 (The Closer — 747 Program, Wave 13 final packet; a gap-closing packet built from the earlier packets' documented blocked edges). Gate A (2026-10-16): CLEAR — hand-checked against the live graph (3,910 entities): no Larry Clark entity homed under either identity. DISAMBIGUATION carried on the record's face: this is the L.A. Rebellion filmmaker, NOT Lawrence Donald Clark (b. January 19, 1943, Tulsa), the photographer of Tulsa (1971) who directed Kids (1995); the near-identical birth day/month is a standing conflation risk and the two men must never be merged. ID CTL-E-6288 free at staging. Subtype note: Person/other per the graph's filmmaker precedent (John Singleton, CTL-E-6193); "Filmmaker" is not a legal Person subtype in schema.json. Supply: 747 blocked-edge harvest — Scan Tail Wave 5 documented the Passing Through (CTL-E-6171) authored_by edge as blocked on this missing endpoint. SCOPE GATE: national-canon gap-fix endpoint harvested from a documented blocked edge in a merged packet; staged to close that edge, per the Closer brief. Vital status: LIVING — most recent dated evidence opened: the Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque's September 2026 schedule billed a Larry Clark Retrospective for Saturday 19 September 2026 with Clark in person and a live Q&A. Stated plainly: that billing is a pre-event announcement, not a post-event confirmation; the strongest confirmed-activity evidence is the 2 February 2024 Clinton Street Theater screening mounted with Clark's approval and a slideshow he provided, preceded by his first-person BFI interview of 12 July 2023 and the Library of Congress's December 2023 "Special Thanks to Larry Clark." No opened source dated after September 2026 was found; a post-event 2026 confirmation is an enrichment-era upgrade, not asserted here. STATISTICS (counted, sourced, dated 2026-10-16): Birth date January 19, 1948 — stated in the opened encyclopedic entry, whose own citations are The Guardian's Weekend Birthdays (2014) and an archived San Francisco State page; FLAGGED: no second opened authoritative source gives the full date. Birthplace specificity differs by source, shown not blended: Cleveland, Ohio (BFI; Wikipedia; Cleveland Cinematheque) vs. Ohio only (UCLA Film & Television Archive). CONFLICT — UCLA MFA year: 1977 (UCLA Film & Television Archive) vs. 1981 (UCLA Newsroom); both are UCLA sources and neither is suppressed. UCLA Archive filmography counted: 5 entries, 1970–2002. CONFLICT — Passing Through runtime: 111 min (CCCB) vs. 104 min (Clinton Street Theater); not blended. Passing Through: Special Jury Prize, Locarno (UCLA FTA; CCCB; Clinton Street Theater); National Film Registry induction 2023 (Library of Congress). Teaching: professor of film, Cinema Department, San Francisco State University — tense differs by source ("is" in CCCB/Wikipedia, "was previously" in the current UCLA Archive wording); shown as-is. MEDIA: map N/A (person); photo HELD with named candidate; chart FILLED (charts/chart-ctl-e-6288-larry-clark.svg); video HELD (no matching-entity CTL Short in the Shorts Link Map); audio HELD. MEDIA LAYER (staged 2026-10-16; full per-asset PHOTO-001 records + embed specs in the packet's staged JSON, Drive packet folder): map = N/A (Person records carry no map slot; maps attach to places and institutions.) | visual_assets = HELD: | chart = FILLED (CTL-created chart (black / deep red / gold) built only from this record's sourced statistics and timeline fact) | video = HELD (No matching-entity CTL Short in the Shorts Link Map (shorts-link-map-2026-10-15.json, 233 rows, checked by nam) | audio = HELD (HELD: No CTL-owned or rights-cleared matching-entity audio exists at staging.)
