Saturnino Orestes Armas Miñoso, known as Minnie Miñoso, was a Cuban outfielder whose talent, speed and courage opened doors for Latin American stars and made him the defining player of the 1950s Chicago White Sox. The National Baseball Hall of Fame, named here as a source, quotes Orlando Cepeda calling Miñoso to Latin ballplayers what Jackie Robinson was to Black ballplayers, records his start with Negro league teams including the New York Cubans, his major-league debut with Cleveland on April 19, 1949, and his trade to the White Sox in 1951, where he finished that season at .326 and became the first dark-skinned player to appear in a game for the White Sox. The Society for American Baseball Research (SABR) corroborates his White Sox tenures of 1951–57 and 1960–61, his perennial All-Star standing, and his status as a 2022 Hall of Fame inductee, an induction also recorded by the Hall of Fame. Known as "Mr. White Sox," he remained a Chicago figure long after his playing prime, appearing for the club across five decades.

Notes
Sports Encyclopedia roster CTL-SPE-0278 (cross-ref restored at head assembly from s1-selection.json; the build lane's assignment excerpt had omitted the number). Birth-date note: sources disagree on Miñoso's birth year (listings include 1922 on his visa account, 1923 in later Hall research, and 1924/1925 in other listings) and birthplace is given as Havana/Perico, Cuba in different sources; the era on this record uses 1924–2015 and the dispute is flagged here rather than resolved. Firsts disposition: White Sox appearance claim is stated as the Hall of Fame states it; no additional roster 'first' is asserted. Curator's Judgment (DRAFT): Miñoso is the South Side counterpart to the North Side pioneers in this set — an Afro-Latino star whose Chicago belonging was earned on the field and kept for life. Photo: HELD at build-lane stage (the lane's Commons route timed out); CLEARED by the head at assembly via the Commons API — see media layer.
