Miles Cleveland Chamley-Watson (born December 3, 1989, in London, England) is a foil fencer who brought an unmistakable personal style to a traditional sport. Born in London, he moved to the United States at nine and took up fencing in New York; USA Fencing lists his hometown as Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. At Penn State, on a full fencing scholarship, he was a four-time All-American and a two-time NCAA team champion, and he earned a degree in sports management. He made his Olympic debut at London 2012, in his birth city, finishing fourth in the team event. On August 9, 2013, in Budapest, he became the first U.S. man ever to win an individual Senior World Championship title, defeating Russia's Artur Akhmatkhuzin 15–6 in the final, and at the same championships took silver with the first U.S. men's foil team ever to medal at a Senior World Championships. At Rio 2016 he won bronze in the men's team foil, and in 2019 he was a member of the first U.S. men's foil team to win a Senior World Championship title, per USA Fencing. He is also known for the “Chamley-Watson,” a behind-the-head flick shot named for him after he unveiled it at the 2009 World Championships in Turkey.

Notes
Sports Encyclopedia roster CTL-SPE-0202. Firsts disposition: three related firsts are asserted, all from USA Fencing's honors list and each independently corroborated — first U.S. man to win an individual Senior World Championship title (2013; also Knox School and The Daily Collegian), first U.S. men's foil team to medal at a Senior World Championships (silver, 2013), and first U.S. men's foil team to win a Senior World Championship title (2019). Statistics flag: Penn State's Daily Collegian reported his college record as 83-13 in 2013 and 83-14 in a 2016 profile — the conflicting figure is excluded from the description and recorded here. His Penn State degree year is likewise reported variously (2012/2013) and is not stated. No “first Black” or “first man of color” world-title claim is asserted: those phrasings appear only in magazine copy without two-source support. Curator's Judgment (DRAFT): Chamley-Watson is the packet's style-and-substance case — the named move and the fashion profile travel with a genuine competitive first that ended a long American drought in men's foil. CTL should lead with the 2013 title, not the celebrity. Photo: CLEARED — Miles Chamley-Watson 2013 WCh.jpg, CC BY 3.0.
