Seba Johnson (born May 1, 1973, in St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands) is an African American former alpine ski racer who broke the Winter Olympics' color barrier as a teenager. Raised partly in New England, she began skiing at age seven and, at fourteen, was selected for the U.S. Virgin Islands team for the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary — the territory's Winter Games debut — where she carried its flag and raced the giant slalom and Super-G. She became, at 14, the youngest alpine ski racer in Olympic history and the first Black woman to ski at the Olympic Games. At fifteen she became the first Black ski racer to finish in the top 30 in international competition, at the World Alpine Ski Championships, and she returned to the Olympics at Albertville in 1992, racing the slalom and giant slalom. A vegan since birth and a longtime animal-rights activist, she later studied fine arts at Howard University. Her ski boots from her Olympic career are held by the Smithsonian's National Museum of African American History and Culture.

Notes
Sports Encyclopedia roster CTL-SPE-0230. Firsts disposition: ASSERTED, WITH A CORRECTION TO THE ASSIGNMENT LEAD — the lead's 'first Black woman on the U.S. Olympic alpine team' is NOT what the sources establish and is not asserted: Johnson represented the U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS, not the United States team. The asserted firsts are the documented ones — 'first Black woman to ski at the Olympic Games' and 'youngest alpine ski racer in Olympic history (age 14, Calgary 1988)' — each supported by Andscape/The Undefeated, Wikipedia, and Associated Press reporting in this record. Accounts describing her as, as of 2014, the only Black woman to have skied competitively at the Olympics are time-bound and are not carried as a current claim; the AP account notes the next Black woman in an Olympic alpine event was Kenya's Sabrina Simader in 2018. Curator's Judgment (DRAFT): Johnson's record was made with borrowed support and a fraction of her rivals' training budgets, from a Caribbean island with no snow — the barrier she broke in 1988 stood essentially intact for thirty years, which indicts the pipeline, not her successors.
