Combined Graph record U-07813 · provenance: build store (JSON graph), record CTL-E-6941.

Paige Johnson of The Plains, Virginia, is an American show jumping rider who competed internationally for the United States out of her family's Salamander Farm. The FEI, the sport's international federation, records 294 jumping starts for her from 2010 onward with four wins, and she received the 2003 Maxine Beard Award from the United States Equestrian Team Foundation, an honor for a developing rider showing promise at the highest level. Her biggest documented win came under the lights at the 2015 Winter Equestrian Festival, where she won the $127,000 Engel & Völkers Grand Prix CSI 4* aboard Dakota, beating her own trainer, Kent Farrington, in a four-horse jump-off — her first big grand prix victory at that festival. The year before, she finished third in the inaugural $210,000 Central Park Grand Prix in New York. She is the daughter of Robert and Sheila Johnson, co-founders of Black Entertainment Television.

Notes

Sports Encyclopedia roster CTL-SPE-0235. Firsts disposition: NO 'first' is asserted. Discipline VERIFIED as show jumping from the FEI athlete record (Jumping; 294 starts, 4 wins from 2010) rather than assumed from the roster. The 2015 Engel & Völkers win is stated from the Chronicle of the Horse report and the third place at the 2014 Central Park Grand Prix from US Equestrian; further grand prix wins reported in US Equestrian's release archive (Bluegrass Festival 2012; Suncast at Tryon 2015) were seen at headline level only and are NOT stated in the description, to keep every claim inside the cited sources. No 'first Black' claim is made for Johnson — none was found in the federation or federation-adjacent sources at build time. Curator's Judgment (DRAFT): Johnson's record is a working rider's record — hundreds of FEI starts, a signature win earned in a jump-off against her own coach — in a sport where Black riders at grand prix level remain rare enough that her presence in the start lists is itself part of the record.
