Phaidra Knight (born July 4, 1974, in Irwinton, Georgia) is an American former rugby union player who represented the United States from 1999 to 2017, earning 35 caps and playing in three Women's Rugby World Cups — 2002, 2006, and 2010 — with All-World Team honors at the first two. Equally accomplished at prop and flanker, two very different forward positions, she was named USA Rugby's Player of the Decade in 2010. In November 2017 she was inducted into the World Rugby Hall of Fame in Rugby, England — the first African-American woman, and the first woman of color, so honored, and only the second American woman after her former teammate Patty Jervey. A lawyer who discovered rugby in law school at the University of Wisconsin, she later served on the USA Rugby board and founded the nonprofit PeaK Unleashed.

Notes
Sports Encyclopedia roster CTL-SPE-0236. Firsts disposition: ASSERTED — 'first African-American woman and first woman of color inducted into the World Rugby Hall of Fame (2017),' supported by the U.S. Women's Rugby Foundation's museum account and the SportiConference biography in this record, with USA Rugby confirming the 2017 induction and her status as the second American woman honored. The stronger 'first and only Black American in both the World Rugby and USA Rugby Halls of Fame' formulation rests on the SportiConference source alone and is recorded here rather than asserted in the description. Birthplace Irwinton, Georgia is stated from the Americas Rugby News induction report. Curator's Judgment (DRAFT): Knight mastered the two forward jobs that least resemble each other, then mastered law, governance, and media in the same decades — the Hall of Fame first is the receipt, not the achievement.
