VERIFIED evidence grade — build store (JSON graph)

Combined Graph record U-07881 · provenance: build store (JSON graph), record CTL-E-7009.

Hakeem Olajuwon (born January 21, 1963, in Lagos, Nigeria), known as "The Dream," traveled one of the longest roads in the graph: recruited from Lagos to the University of Houston — where "Phi Slama Jama" reached three Final Fours — he became the Houston Rockets' first overall draft pick in 1984. A twelve-time All-Star and the NBA's all-time leader in blocked shots (3,830), Olajuwon led the Rockets to back-to-back championships in 1994 and 1995, winning Finals MVP both years; in 1994 he became the only player to win the MVP Award, the Defensive Player of the Year Award, and Finals MVP in the same season. Born Akeem Olajuwon, he added the 'H' in 1991 in keeping with the proper Arabic spelling. Naturalized as a United States citizen in 1993, he won Olympic gold with the United States at Atlanta 1996 while remaining one of Nigerian sport's defining figures — the diaspora corridor in a single career. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2008.

Notes

Sports Encyclopedia roster CTL-SPE-0326. Firsts disposition: ASSERTED in sourced form — the only player to win MVP, Defensive Player of the Year, and Finals MVP in the same season (1994), per the Hall of Fame. Nigerian birth and 1993 naturalization carried per Britannica; the diaspora framing is the record's own note, not a sourced claim. Curator's Judgment (DRAFT): Olajuwon arrived as a project and left as the center position's complete text — footwork included. Photo: CLEARED (University of Houston era, public domain).
