Clyde Drexler (born June 22, 1962, in New Orleans, Louisiana, and raised in Houston, Texas), known as "Clyde the Glide," was the Portland Trail Blazers' defining star before finishing his career at home. At the University of Houston, Drexler and Hakeem Olajuwon fronted the "Phi Slama Jama" teams that reached consecutive NCAA championship games (1983, 1984). Drafted fourteenth by Portland in 1983, he led the Blazers to the NBA Finals in 1990 and 1992 and made ten All-Star teams. Traded to Houston in February 1995, he reunited with Olajuwon and won the 1995 NBA championship in his hometown. A member of the 1992 Olympic Dream Team, Drexler retired with 22,195 points and ranks among the game's leaders in steals; his combination of open-court glide and two-way play made him the era's model shooting guard after Jordan. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2004, and later coached his alma mater, the University of Houston.
