Cris Carter (born November 25, 1965, in Troy, Ohio) starred at wide receiver for the Ohio State Buckeyes from 1984 to 1986, leaving with school career records for receptions (168) and touchdowns (27) as part of two Big Ten championship teams. Selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the fourth round of the 1987 supplemental draft, he played for Philadelphia (1987–1989), then built his Hall of Fame career with the Minnesota Vikings (1990–2001) before a final season with the Miami Dolphins (2002). Across 16 seasons he recorded 1,101 receptions for 13,899 yards and 130 touchdowns — totals that, Ohio State and the Pro Football Hall of Fame both note, each ranked second in NFL history when he retired. He posted eight consecutive 1,000-yard seasons, 42 career 100-yard games, a then-record 122 receptions in 1994, and eight consecutive Pro Bowl selections, and he led the NFL in receiving touchdowns three times. Carter was enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2013.

Notes

Sports Encyclopedia roster CTL-SPE-0397. Firsts disposition: no 'first' claimed for this record; the sourced superlatives carried are his second-ranked career receptions and touchdown totals at retirement (Ohio State; Pro Football Hall of Fame). Curator's Judgment (DRAFT): Carter's hands were the argument — the sideline catch as a repeatable skill — and his Minnesota decade turned a waiver claim into a Canton career.
