Calvin Johnson Jr. (born September 29, 1985, in Tyrone, Georgia), nicknamed 'Megatron', was a two-time All-American at Georgia Tech who won the 2006 Biletnikoff Award as the nation's top receiver and was named Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year, per the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The Detroit Lions drafted him second overall in 2007, and he spent his entire nine-year career in Detroit. Listed by the Hall at 6-foot-5 and 237 pounds, Johnson recorded seven seasons of 1,000 or more receiving yards, led the league in receiving yards in 2011 and 2012, and in 2012 set the NFL single-season receiving record with 1,964 yards — a mark the Hall notes he still held for the Lions' career records in receptions (731) and receiving yards (11,619) on retirement, with 83 career touchdowns. He retired after the 2015 season and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2021, in his first year of eligibility, after entering the College Football Hall of Fame in 2018.

Notes

Sports Encyclopedia roster CTL-SPE-0401. Firsts disposition: ASSERTED as sourced — NFL single-season receiving-yards record, 1,964 yards in 2012 (Pro Football Hall of Fame, stated as his record at retirement); no broader 'first' claimed. Curator's Judgment (DRAFT): Johnson's nine seasons are the cleanest case in this packet that a short career can still be a complete one — the peak was the record, and the record still frames him.
