Roy Levesta Jones Jr., born January 16, 1969, in Pensacola, Florida, reached the light-middleweight final at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, where the official record is a 3–2 decision for South Korea's Park Si-hun — a verdict the press record documents as a robbery: BoxRec's compiled punch counts credit Jones with 86 punches landed to Park's 32, Olympedia calls it the worst decision in Olympic boxing history, and Jones was awarded the Val Barker Trophy as the Games' outstanding boxer even in defeat. The IOC declined to overturn the result. As a professional, Jones won world titles from middleweight through heavyweight, as the International Boxing Hall of Fame sequences them: the IBF middleweight title, the IBF super-middleweight title, the unified WBC, WBA and IBF light-heavyweight titles, and, on March 1, 2003, the WBA heavyweight title from John Ruiz — the first former middleweight champion to win a heavyweight title since Bob Fitzsimmons in 1897, in the Hall's account. Returning to light heavyweight, he lost his rematch with Antonio Tarver by second-round knockout in May 2004 and their 2005 rubber match on points, closing the rivalry 1–2. He was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2022.

Notes
Sports Encyclopedia roster CTL-SPE-0487. Contested disposition — the 1988 Seoul final, both sides stated and never blended: the OFFICIAL record is a 3–2 decision and an Olympic silver medal for Jones, and the IOC has refused to overturn it; the PERFORMANCE record, documented across the press and Olympedia, is that Jones dominated, outlanding Park 86 to 32 on the compiled counts, and the three judges who scored for Park were later barred amid corruption and bribery evidence (East Side Boxing). Honors, each in its exact sourced form: the Val Barker Trophy as the Games' outstanding boxer (Olympedia, BoxRec) and the Olympic Order awarded by the IOC in 1997 (East Side Boxing) — these are different honors from different bodies and are not merged into a single 'outstanding boxer' claim. Firsts disposition: the 2003 Ruiz win is carried in the Hall's dated form — first former middleweight champion to win a heavyweight title since Fitzsimmons in 1897. Identity: Roy Levesta Jones Jr. of Pensacola; not to be confused with his father, trainer Roy Jones Sr., who has no record in this graph. Blocked edges: Antonio Tarver (S8-25, this packet) and Bernard Hopkins (S8-23, this packet) are Jones opponents — bouts alone are not edges, so the Tarver trilogy (1–2) and the two Hopkins meetings are carried in prose only, no edges minted.
