Newspaper article (tier 3), 'Golden Oldie Still Fresh at 90': James Dewar, manager at the Continental Baking plant in River Forest, Illinois, in 1930, developed the original confection; the original banana-cream filling was switched to vanilla during wartime rationing. Establishes identity, year 1930, Dewar, and an Illinois origin — but in River Forest, not Chicago proper (see conflicts).
