Evidence note (master store)

Wine Enthusiast (tier 3, published May 9, 2025): Malört is a stunningly bitter, herbaceous wormwood digestif originally from Sweden; Carl Jeppson emigrated to Chicago in the 1930s and began making his namesake malört there, peddling it door-to-door, and sold the brand to George Brode in 1935; in 2018 the Carl Jeppson Company was sold to CH Distillery, which now makes Jeppson's Malört at its distillery in Chicago's Pilsen neighborhood; the spirit is 'woven permanently into Chicago's distinct cultural tapestry.' Supports the stored note, 'Jeppson's Malört; Chicago bitter liqueur.'
