Company history (International Directory of Company Histories, reprinted at Reference for Business): Tootsie Roll Industries Inc. is one of the largest candy companies in the United States, with headquarters in Chicago (7401 S. Cicero Ave., Chicago, Illinois 60629), and is best known for producing the candies that bear the company name — the Tootsie Roll. In 1966 the company changed its name to Tootsie Roll Industries, Inc. and opened a large Midwest plant on Chicago's South Side, which later became company headquarters. Supports the stored note, 'Chicago candy company flagship.'
