Somebody checked our work. Here's what they found — the good and the bad.

An outside auditor — someone who doesn't work for us — decided to test our website. Were our pages really up? Did our claims match reality? For a cultural preservation nonprofit, there's no more important question — because Black cultural preservation only counts if the public can check the record.
They made three claims. Two were wrong: our methodology page was live the whole time, and the two articles they said "failed to load" loaded just fine. We checked twice. When someone says your work is broken and it isn't, you say so — calmly, with proof.
But they got one thing right: our articles index was out of date. The new articles existed, but the public list of articles hadn't caught up yet — the website update was running behind. That's on us, and we fixed it. A fix nobody can see isn't a fix.
They also asked a fair question: we grade every fact in our archive — from VERIFIED down to UNRESOLVED — but those grades live in our research files, not always in the articles themselves. A reader who only reads the article never sees the grade. That's a real point, and we're still thinking about what to do with it.
Here's the lesson: letting people check your work only helps if you tell the truth about what they find — "you're wrong" when they're wrong, and "you're right, we fixed it" when they're right. That's how trust works. Not by never making mistakes. By never hiding them.
