VERIFIED evidence grade of this record

Hot Buttered Soul is the second studio album by Isaac Hayes, released in July 1969 on Enterprise Records, Stax Records’ subsidiary, as Stax rushed to rebuild its catalogue. The album holds only four tracks across some 45 minutes: a roughly 12-minute reading of “Walk On By,” the original “Hyperbolicsyllabicsesquedalymistic,” “One Woman,” and an 18-minute closing treatment of “By the Time I Get to Phoenix” framed by a spoken monologue. Where soul albums were still built as collections of three-minute singles, Hayes stretched four songs into long, orchestrated statements, and the record became a landmark of album-oriented soul. It spent ten weeks at number one on Billboard’s R&B albums chart, peaked at number eight on the Billboard 200, and was certified gold by the RIAA in December 1969.
