Maggot Brain
VERIFIED evidence grade of this record
Maggot Brain is the third studio album by Funkadelic, released by Westbound Records on July 12, 1971. Produced by George Clinton and recorded at United Sound Systems in Detroit in late 1970 and early 1971, it was the last album made by the band's original lineup. The ten-minute title track is largely an improvised guitar solo by Eddie Hazel, cut in a single take; Clinton has often recounted that he directed Hazel to play as if he had just learned his mother had died, then faded the rest of the band back in the mix. The album reached No. 108 on the Billboard 200 and the top 20 of the R&B albums chart. Its reputation grew for decades: Pitchfork named it the 17th best album of the 1970s, and Rolling Stone ranked it No. 136 on its 2020 list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

Staged 2026-10-15 under CTL-GOV-006 (Next Slate D3). Gate A clear (no existing Maggot Brain Work; no song-level namesake in the graph).
