VERIFIED evidence grade of this record

Funkadelic is an American funk-rock band that grew out of the touring band George Clinton assembled behind his Plainfield, New Jersey doo-wop group, the Parliaments. When a contractual dispute cost Clinton the Parliaments name, the same musicians signed to Detroit's Westbound Records as Funkadelic — the guitar-driven, psychedelic counterpart to Parliament within Clinton's P-Funk collective: two distinct bands with overlapping membership under one leader. Funkadelic's self-titled debut appeared in 1970, and Maggot Brain (1971) became its defining early statement. After a move to Warner Bros., One Nation Under a Groove (1978) put its title track atop the R&B chart for six weeks and became the band's first platinum album; “(Not Just) Knee Deep” followed to number one in 1979. The original album run ended in the early 1980s. As part of Parliament-Funkadelic, the band entered the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997 and received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2019.

Notes

Staged 2026-10-15 under CTL-GOV-006 (Next Slate D3). Gate A clear: no existing Funkadelic entity, alias, or containment match (diacritic-aware sweep 2026-10-15); George Clinton has NO graph entity (verified) and is not staged in this packet — named as the obvious next branch. Gate B met (4 sources, 2 authoritative). Statistics carried: 'One Nation Under a Groove' six weeks at R&B No. 1 and first platinum Funkadelic album (AllMusic); RRHOF 1997 and Grammy Lifetime Achievement 2019 (RRHOF / Recording Academy). Founding-year conflict (backing band 1964/1967 vs 'founded 1968') NOT carried — description states the sourced origin without a year. CTL treatment: Funkadelic's Maggot Brain is CTL Short #31 (published 2026-10-07) and holds a CTL Archive score of 90/100 (CTL's judgment, recorded 2026-10-01). Photo slot: CANDIDATE named in packet (Commons, PD); nothing downloaded.
