PROVISIONAL evidence grade of this record

Paradise Garage was a members-only New York dance club at 84 King Street, opened in 1977-78, with Larry Levan as resident DJ and a custom Richard Long sound system widely regarded as the era's reference standard. Its crowd, like the Warehouse's, was primarily Black and Latino and largely gay, and its all-night, alcohol-free, music-centered model parallels the Warehouse's in design. In this brief it serves as the comparison room: the same designer and a sister DJ lineage produced garage music in New York, which isolates what Chicago's room and crowd added to produce house instead.
