Jackie Robinson
VERIFIED evidence grade of this record
Jack Roosevelt Robinson (born January 31, 1919, in Cairo, Georgia) broke modern Major League Baseball's color line on April 15, 1947, when he took the field at first base for the Brooklyn Dodgers at Ebbets Field — the event the intake timeline files simply under his name and year. Signed by Branch Rickey and seasoned with the Kansas City Monarchs of the Negro American League and the Dodgers' Montreal farm club, Robinson endured the abuse Rickey had warned him to absorb without retaliation, and answered with his play: National League Rookie of the Year in 1947, Most Valuable Player in 1949, a World Series championship in 1955, and election to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1962, the first year he was eligible. After baseball he wrote, broadcast, marched, and raised money for the movement, carrying the integration fight far beyond the diamond. He died in 1972, aged fifty-three. In 1997 Major League Baseball retired his number 42 across the entire sport. The graph held a Chicago Little League bearing his name (CTL-E-1253) before it held the man; this record corrects that order.

Notes
Statistics: Debut: April 15, 1947 (Britannica). The intake paste's stop #15 (1947) is VERIFIED. Identity note: the graph's only prior Robinson record was the Jackie Robinson West Little League (CTL-E-1253, Chicago) — a namesake institution, not this man; the audit flagged the absence as an anomaly inside a stop whose subject was supposedly covered. · Curator's Judgment: DRAFT — for founder review: Robinson's record was the audit's sharpest finding: the timeline's most famous name was the graph's emptiest chair. The judgment writes itself — a reference work is judged by whether the obvious is present. It is present now, with the Rickey bargain and its cost stated, not sanded into a poster. · Photo slot: HELD — no rights-cleared image was verified for this record in the merge run's bounded Commons sweep (2026-10-15); slot stays HELD until a cleared image is obtained (commons upload, public-domain government portrait, or CTL original), per CTL-PHOTO-001.
