Anthony Anderson is an American actor, comedian, and television host, recorded in the CultureTechLens graph as a Person. This record is built on his documented career and on his sourced connection to the Soul Train Awards: he hosted the ceremony in 2013 and returns to host the Soul Train Awards 2026 in Chicago — the edition that carries its own event record in this batch. No broader claim about the awards is made here; the franchise and the 2026 ceremony stand on their own records.

Anderson was born in 1970 in Compton, California, and attended the Hollywood High School for the Performing Arts, where he earned first place in the NAACP's ACT-SO Awards with a performance of the classic monologue from The Great White Hope — a performance that, with his dedication to his craft, earned him an arts scholarship to Howard University, according to ABC's cast biography. His best-known acting role is Andre "Dre" Johnson on ABC's Black-ish, which he starred in and executive produced for eight seasons. For that role he received seven consecutive Emmy nominations for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series — the figure stated by Paramount's 2026 announcement, by Memorable TV's coverage of it, and by his speakers' biographies — along with Golden Globe nominations and multiple NAACP Image Awards, including Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series. As a producer on Black-ish he also received Emmy nominations for Outstanding Comedy Series, and he executive produced the spin-off Grown-ish for Freeform.

His film and dramatic television work predates and surrounds the sitcom. ABC's biography lists his starring role in Fox's K-Ville opposite Cole Hauser, a recurring role in The Shield opposite Michael Chiklis and Glenn Close, the role of Kevin Bernard in Law & Order, and the NBC comedy Guys with Kids, alongside culinary hosting and judging work on the Food Network, including Eating America with Anthony Anderson, Carnival Cravings with Anthony Anderson, and Iron Chef America. His film credits named in biographical coverage include Transformers, The Departed, and Hustle & Flow.

Hosting is the second half of the record, and it is the half the Soul Train connection rests on. Paramount's announcement states the sequence directly: Anderson previously hosted the BET Awards in 2015 and 2016 and served as host of the NAACP Image Awards for eight consecutive years, and he hosted the 75th Annual Emmy Awards. He also hosted the ABC game show To Tell the Truth. Memorable TV, reporting the October 1, 2026 announcement, adds that he hosted the Soul Train Awards in 2013 and spent two years hosting the BET Awards alongside his Black-ish co-star Tracee Ellis Ross. In 2020 he was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and in 2022 he was named a Disney Legend, the Walt Disney Company's highest honor, according to his biographical summaries.

For the 2026 edition, his own statement is the record's closing evidence. "I'm thrilled to be back with BET and especially excited to host Soul Train Awards in Chicago, where the Soul Train legacy began," Anderson said in the announcement carried by Paramount. "Soul Train is more than a television show or an awards franchise; it's a piece of our cultural history. Don Cornelius created a platform that gave Black artists a place to shine, and generations later, that spirit is still alive." Connie Orlando of BET praised his combination of comedic instinct, musical knowledge, and genuine love for the culture, and BET president Louis Carr called him an entertainer with a genuine connection to BET and to what Soul Train represents.

ABC's biography also records his advocacy work: Anderson has type 2 diabetes and is an advocate for diabetes awareness, served on the GOOD+ Foundation's Fatherhood Leadership Council, and was inducted into the Boys & Girls Club of America's National Alumni Hall of Fame, and his annual celebrity golf classic benefited the American Diabetes Association, the Los Angeles Mission, and the Boys & Girls Club of America. That public-service record is included because it is part of the documented biography on which his hosting profile — a familiar, trusted presence for family and community audiences — has been built.
