Erin Harkless Moore leads investments for one of the most closely watched social-progress portfolios in American philanthropy. She is Managing Director of Investments for Pivotal Ventures, the company created by Melinda French Gates to accelerate social progress in the United States, and the Milken Institute record through which this graph entry is verified places her on Pivotal's Executive Leadership Team, leading the organization's fund and direct investment decisions and overseeing a diverse portfolio of investments intended to drive breakthrough innovations and impact. An earlier form of her title, Senior Director of Investments, appears in the same institutional record — the graph's own verification note preserves both forms — and this entry uses the Managing Director title carried by the current record while flagging the dated variant in the batch index.
Her remit, as the institutional biographies describe it, is the whole investment program: identifying, investing in, and overseeing fund and direct investments that advance women's power and influence, and, on a day-to-day basis, discovering and cultivating relationships with leaders, entrepreneurs, investors, and founders. She is also part of the executive group responsible for setting organization-wide priorities and approving cross-functional bodies of work. The biographies credit her with nearly twenty years of investment experience building and managing customized portfolios for endowed institutions and family offices, including portfolios ranging in size from $100 million to over $1 billion, with particular expertise in private markets and early-stage venture capital, and with developing strategies for impact and mission-aligned investments and advising on investment governance.
Before Pivotal, she spent eight years at Cambridge Associates, most recently as a managing director, sourcing and conducting diligence on investment managers across asset classes. Earlier positions, in the order the biographies list them, were at the Princeton University Investment Company, Summit Rock Advisors, and Goldman Sachs. Her education is stated consistently across the records: an MBA from Harvard Business School, where she was a Robert Toigo Foundation Fellow, and a BSBA, magna cum laude, from Washington University in St. Louis, where she was a John B. Ervin Scholar. She is a CFA charterholder and a member of the CFA Society of Washington, DC, and in 2022 she was honored on the inaugural Black Women in Asset Management 40 Under 40 list.
Her board and advisory service follows the same mission line as her portfolio work. She serves on the board and the investment committee of Builders Initiative, a family foundation dedicated to social and environmental change; she is an at-large member of the Alumni Board of Governors of Washington University; she serves on the advisory council of White Oak Enterprises, a multi-generation family office; and she formerly served on the board of the DC Public Library Foundation, where she was treasurer and chaired the finance and investment committee. She writes and speaks frequently — at events sponsored by organizations including the Milken Institute Global Conference, SOCAP, Forbes, and the Private Equity Women Investor Network — on investing with a social equity and gender equity lens and on investing in diverse and emerging managers.
The personal facts in the record are few and consistent: she is a native Texan, and she resides on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC, with her husband and two children — the residence point on which the graph's stored city was corrected during verification, an earlier stored value having placed her elsewhere. In the graph, she appears on the UrbanGeekz 50 list and is affiliated with the Pivotal Ventures institution record, and her degree-two wiring is exactly those two edges. CultureTechLens records her, on this evidence, as a senior investment leader whose career runs from Goldman Sachs and university endowment work through Cambridge Associates to the leadership of Pivotal Ventures' fund and direct investment program.
