The Chicago American Gears were a Chicago professional basketball team owned by Maurice White and named for his American Gear & Manufacturing Company, which played in the National Basketball League from 1944 to 1947 after an amateur season in the AAU. The Gears are remembered for one season: in 1946–47, after a weeks-long contract holdout, DePaul University star George Mikan joined the team late, played 25 games at 16.5 points per game, and led playoff upsets of the Indianapolis Kautskys, the Oshkosh All-Stars and the Rochester Royals to win the 1947 NBL championship — then widely considered the most prestigious title in professional basketball. White then withdrew the team from the NBL to launch his own Professional Basketball League of America, which collapsed during its first season in 1947; the Gears folded with it, and a dispersal process sent Mikan to the Minneapolis Lakers. George Mikan's record (CTL-E-5543) has named this team as a mint candidate since the Named Queues packet; this record gives his Chicago championship a home in the graph.

STAGED 2026-10-16 (747 Program, Priority Gaps — Wave 5) — not merged; awaits founder merge go. Gate A: no match in the live graph (3,381 entities) under exact, normalized, alias, or token-containment screening, 2026-10-16; keyword scan for 'gears' returns zero graph hits. Typed Organization / other with project BCI-001 on the team-organization precedent (Chicago Bulls CTL-E-5503 and the Team Organizations packet). Conflict shown, not blended: the 1946–47 season record documents that NBL commissioner Ward Lambert regarded the Rochester Royals — the team with the league's best overall record — as that season's champions, even as the Gears won the playoff championship series 3–1 over Rochester. The record follows the playoff result and the team's standard championship count of one, and prints the dispute here. Era is carried 1944–1947 (the NBL span); the team's AAU season (1943–44) and its brief PBLA membership (1947) are carried in the facts. Project ID: BCI-001 per the team-organizations precedent.
