Hep was a Black-audience entertainment magazine published in Fort Worth, Texas, by the Good Publishing Company, the house behind Sepia. In the standard account of the company, George Levitan — the Fort Worth merchant who bought Horace J. Blackwell's magazines and the Good Publishing Company in 1950 and ran the firm until his death in 1976 — published Hep alongside the companion title Jive as part of the same Black-audience list that carried Sepia and Bronze Thrills. Hep belonged to the entertainment side of that list rather than to Sepia's photojournalism of Black achievement: it was a fan-and-features magazine for Black readers in the decades when Good Publishing stood as Ebony's Fort Worth rival. Direct documentation of the title is thin: the fullest surviving traces are the company history that names it among Levitan's magazines and physical issues in the collectors' market, including an issue dated May 1972, which places Hep still in publication more than two decades after the Levitan purchase. No library catalog entry, circulation figure, or founding date for Hep was verified at staging, and none is asserted here.

Notes
STAGED 2026-10-16 (747 Program, Named Remainders & Further Gaps, Batch A) — not merged; awaits founder merge go. Gate A: PASS — no graph record for the magazine (name-string hits are unrelated persons). Verification is PROVISIONAL and the record says why on its face: Hep is attested by exactly one substantive secondary account (the Sepia company history) plus one dated physical artifact (May 1972 issue); no independent second source, catalog record, or founding date could be found. The packet's caution is honored: Hep was a GOOD PUBLISHING title — no Johnson Publishing / John H. Johnson connection is supported by any source, and none is claimed. Edges: member_of to CTL-E-5521 (Good Publishing Company) staged; a published_by edge is BLOCKED — the schema has no such type (documented in the packet MD). Photo and chart: HELD (see media). MEDIA LAYER (staged 2026-10-16; full per-asset PHOTO-001 records + embed specs in the packet's staged JSON, Drive packet folder): map = N/A (Publication records carry no map slot under the media-layer rule; maps attach to places and institutions.) | visual_assets = HELD: No file-page-level PHOTO-001 license verification completed at staging; surviving Hep issues are in-copyright | chart = HELD (No honest dated series exists — one dated issue (May 1972) and a company-purchase year (1950) do not make a pu) | video = HELD (No CTL Short in the Shorts Link Map catalog (shorts-link-map-2026-10-15.json, 233 entries, searched by name st) | audio = HELD (No CTL-owned or rights-cleared matching-entity audio exists at staging; slot held with reason.)
