Terry Crews, born Terry Alan Crews on 30 July 1968 in Flint, Michigan, is an American actor, television host and former professional football player who built two full careers in public. A defensive end and linebacker at Western Michigan University, he was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams in the eleventh round of the 1991 NFL Draft and played in the NFL for the Rams, the San Diego Chargers and Washington, with a World League of American Football season for the Rhein Fire in Germany; Pro Football Reference credits him with 32 games played. After football he rebuilt himself as an actor: Julius Rock, the frugal father of Everybody Hates Chris (2005–2009), made him a sitcom fixture, and Sergeant, later Lieutenant, Terry Jeffords on Brooklyn Nine-Nine (2013–2021) made him a beloved one. His film work runs from Friday After Next (2002) and White Chicks (2004) to The Expendables series. Since 2019 he has hosted NBC's America's Got Talent. He was among the group named Time Person of the Year in 2017, the 'Silence Breakers,' after speaking publicly about sexual assault, and he has spoken openly about the abuse his family endured during his Flint childhood.
