Jalen Alexander Hurts (born August 7, 1998, in Houston, Texas) is an American professional football quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles of the National Football League. A coach's son, he was coached by his father Averion at Channelview High School in Texas, then played college football at Alabama from 2016 to 2018, where he was part of the 2017 national championship team, before finishing his college career at Oklahoma in 2019. Philadelphia drafted him in the second round of the 2020 NFL draft, 53rd overall, and he became the Eagles' starter late in his rookie season. In the 2022 season he led Philadelphia to Super Bowl LVII — the first Super Bowl to feature two Black starting quarterbacks, Hurts and Patrick Mahomes — and earned second-team All-Pro and Pro Bowl honors while finishing second in AP NFL Most Valuable Player voting. On February 9, 2025, he led the Eagles to a 40–22 victory over Kansas City in Super Bowl LIX and was voted the game's Most Valuable Player. Hurts remains Philadelphia's starting quarterback in the 2026 season, among the defining Black quarterbacks of his generation.
