Deontay Wilder, born Deontay Leshun Wilder on 22 October 1985 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, is an American professional heavyweight boxer. He began boxing at twenty to support his young family, including a daughter born with spina bifida, and within three years had won the National Golden Gloves, the United States championships and a bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, the result behind his Bronze Bomber nickname. Turning professional in 2008, he built a long knockout streak before defeating Bermane Stiverne in January 2015 to win the WBC heavyweight title, becoming the first American world heavyweight champion since 2007. He defended the title ten times, including a drawn first fight with Tyson Fury in 2018, before losing it to Fury in 2020 and losing their 2021 trilogy bout. After defeats by Joseph Parker and Zhilei Zhang, he returned with wins in 2025 and a split-decision victory over Derek Chisora in London in April 2026.
