Elinor Ruth Tatum (born January 29, 1971, in New York City) is the publisher and editor-in-chief of the New York Amsterdam News, one of the oldest and most influential Black newspapers in the United States. The daughter of former Amsterdam News publisher Wilbert Tatum, she graduated from St. Lawrence University in 1993 with a degree in government studies, studied international relations at Stockholm University, and returned to New York to join her father's paper as assistant to the publisher. The HistoryMakers records her promotion to associate publisher and chief operating officer in 1996, her master's degree in journalism from New York University in 1997, and her promotion that year to publisher and editor-in-chief, making her one of the youngest publishers in the history of the African American press. After her father's death in 2009 she assumed full control of the newspaper. Under her leadership the paper modernized, adding an online edition and a new layout. She has also produced and co-hosted a weekly segment on Al Sharpton's radio program and served on civic and university boards. A 2026 Harlem Community News account of the Amsterdam News describes its current masthead as still led by publisher Elinor Tatum, confirming her in the role in 2026.
