Jamie Broadnax is an American writer, podcaster, and the creator of Black Girl Nerds, the online publication and multimedia space she founded in February 2012 for Black women and other nerdy women of color. Blogging since 2007, she created the site the same evening a search for the phrase 'Black Girl Nerds' returned nothing, reasoning that if no space existed for women like her, she would build one. In a 2013 interview she described Black Girl Nerds as an inclusive fellowship around geek fandoms — comics, anime, cosplay, technology, and popular culture — where Black women could be themselves without having their Blackness questioned for their interests. The publication's own author page identifies her as its creator, a member of the Critics Choice Association, and executive producer of the Black Girl Nerds Podcast, and notes her appearance on MSNBC's Melissa Harris-Perry Show and her place on The Grio's Top 100. Podcast listings show her still hosting and editing the Black Girl Nerds podcast in September 2026, including its 2026 Toronto International Film Festival coverage, more than fourteen years after she founded the community for blerds — Black nerds — to find fellowship.
