Boogie Down Productions (BDP) was a Bronx hip-hop group formed by MC KRS-One (Kris Parker) and DJ Scott La Rock (Scott Sterling), who met in 1985 at a Bronx homeless shelter where Sterling worked as a social worker and Parker was living. AllMusic's biography records that the two became friends and decided to form a rap group, releasing the independent single 'Crack Attack' in 1986 and the debut album Criminal Minded on B-Boy Records in 1987. The Boombox's thirtieth-anniversary account gives the album's release as March 3, 1987, and describes its bare-bones production, its Bridge Wars battle with MC Shan and the Juice Crew, and tracks including 'South Bronx' and 'The Bridge Is Over.' AllMusic credits BDP as pioneers of both hardcore and political rap, and among the first hip-hop artists to incorporate Jamaican dancehall and ragga elements into their style. Months after the debut album, Scott La Rock was shot and killed in the Bronx; KRS-One continued Boogie Down Productions as a tribute to him, turning toward socially conscious material on By All Means Necessary (1988) and founding the Stop the Violence Movement, before retiring the BDP name in the early 1990s to record under his own.

Gate A (2026-10-16): Gate A hand-check (2026-10-16) against live graph (3,843 entities): no 'Boogie Down Productions' or 'BDP' entity by exact name, alias, or token search. KRS-One is homed at CTL-E-4316 (Person/musician) — a member, not the group. Type choice: staged as Organization/other, NOT Person/group, to match the Scan Tail Wave 4 precedent (Soul Stirrers staged Organization/other) and the brief's direction, even though Person/'group' also exists in schema.json; the group is a named collective with a multi-member, revolving cast, which the Organization treatment fits. No home; CTL-E-6196 is new. Supply: Supply: 747 Supply Ledger Tier 4 scan-tail reserve banked by Scan Tail Wave 4, corpus-gap-candidates rank #2256. Ledger supplied the name only; every fact herein is sourced to an opened source (CTL-GOV-004). SCOPE GATE: 747 Supply Ledger Tier 4 scan-tail reserve, corpus-gap candidate rank #2256, banked by Scan Tail Wave 4; Batch D, Scan Tail Wave 5. Scope: foundational Bronx hip-hop group in the Black music record; its MC is already homed (CTL-E-4316) while the group was not. Vital status: N/A as a person — group record. Boogie Down Productions is a historical group: KRS-One retired the moniker in the early 1990s (AllMusic). Founding DJ Scott La Rock was shot and killed in the Bronx in 1987, months after the debut album (AllMusic; The Boombox). STATISTICS — Dates and figures (sourced, dated): formed after Parker and Sterling met at a Bronx shelter in 1985 (AllMusic); first single 'Crack Attack,' 1986 (AllMusic); Criminal Minded released Mar. 3, 1987 (The Boombox, Mar. 2017) on B-Boy Records (AllMusic). Fundraising: the Stop the Violence Movement's all-star single 'Self-Destruction' raised half a million dollars for the National Urban League in 1989 (AllMusic). Name-spelling CONFLICT SHOWN: AllMusic gives KRS-One's name as 'Laurence Krisna Parker, or simply Kris Parker'; The Boombox gives 'Lawrence Parker' — reported as written in each source, not blended.
