All Platinum Records was an Englewood, New Jersey, soul and R&B label started in 1967 by singer, writer, and producer Sylvia Robinson and her husband, businessman Joe Robinson. Working from the company's own Soul Sound Studios with in-house musicians, Sylvia Robinson ran the creative operation and produced or co-produced many releases, while subsidiary labels included Stang, Vibration, Turbo, and Astroscope. The label's mainstay act was The Moments, who stayed for ten years and scored a million-selling hit in 1970 that reached number one on the R&B chart and number three on the pop chart. Other number-one R&B hits for the group of labels included Sylvia's own solo hit in 1973 and Shirley & Company's hit in 1975. In 1975 the company bought the bankrupt Chess Records with PolyGram assistance, an unsuccessful move, and in 1979 the Robinsons launched Sugar Hill Records as its focus shifted to rap.

Notes

Staged 2026-10-16 under CTL-GOV-006 (Scan Tail Wave 6 — 747 Program, Wave 13; sixth Scan Tail packet at the founder’s 40-record size). Gate A (2026-10-16): Gate A CLEAR (script + hand-checked 2026-10-16): no All Platinum Records entity, alias, or variant in the live graph (3,910 entities). ID CTL-E-6209 free at staging. Supply: 747 Supply Ledger — scan string #2342 (corpus-gap-candidates-2026-10-15.json), banked in the Scan Tail Wave 5 reserve (Appendix E), re-screened CLEAR against the live graph at 3,910 entities by this wave. The supply supplied the name only; every fact is sourced under CTL-GOV-004. SCOPE GATE: A Black woman-led independent soul label whose Englewood operation, hit catalog, and 1975 purchase of Chicago's Chess Records tie it directly to Black Chicago music history and to the later birth of commercial hip-hop. Vital status: DEFUNCT as an active label operation as sourced: the Robinsons shifted fully to Sugar Hill Records after 1979 and the other labels went quiet; the Englewood studios (renamed Sugar Hill Studios) burned in 2002, two years after Joe Robinson's death, and Sylvia Robinson died in 2011 (Wikipedia history/later-years sections, accessed 2026-10-16). CONFLICT SHOWN: the same page's infobox lists the company's fate with contradictory 'Active / Sold' wording; the narrative history is carried here and the infobox wording is not blended in. Founding-year conflict in secondary coverage: one search-result source gave 1966 and another 1971 for related Robinson label activity — neither was opened or counted; both opened sources agree on 1967. STATISTICS — Founded 1967 in Englewood, New Jersey (both opened sources). Four singles reached number one on the Billboard R&B chart (Wikipedia). The Moments: over 25 R&B hits and 15 Hot 100 entries over ten years with the company (Wikipedia). Chess Records purchased in 1975 with PolyGram assistance (Wikipedia). PROVISIONAL — Floor gap for Verified: no authoritative source was opened — the two opened sources are an encyclopedia-style wiki entry and a magazine profile, neither an authoritative label, hall-of-fame, or reference-work account opened and read; promotion requires opening an authoritative source on the label or on Sylvia Robinson's label work. MEDIA: photo HELD (A 1970s photograph of Sylvia Robinson at the Soul Sound Studios console in Englewood is a plausible candidate; no license is claimed and a file-level PHOTO-001 record is required.); chart FILLED (charts/chart-ctl-e-6209-all-platinum-records.svg); video HELD (no matching-entity CTL Short found; near-miss: Short #159 'Salt — First Gold-and-Platinum Act to Who's the Man?' and #161 'Lil' Kim — Double Platinum to Juwanna Mann' and #162 'Da Brat — First Solo Platinum to Glitter' use 'Platinum' in other subjects' titles and are not about this label.); audio HELD (no rights-cleared matching-entity audio staged); map N/A. MEDIA LAYER (staged 2026-10-16; full per-asset PHOTO-001 records + embed specs in the packet's staged JSON, Drive packet folder): map = N/A (Non-place record; maps attach to places and institutions.) | visual_assets = HELD: | chart = FILLED (CTL-created chart (black / deep red / gold) built only from this record’s sourced statistics and timeline fact) | video = HELD (no matching-entity CTL Short found; near-miss: Short #159 'Salt — First Gold-and-Platinum Act to Who's the Man) | audio = HELD (HELD: No CTL-owned or rights-cleared matching-entity audio exists at staging.)
