The Cosmopolitan Chamber of Commerce is a Chicago business trade association founded in 1933 to address the concerns of African American business owners. The Chamber describes itself as a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization and one of the nation's oldest multicultural trade associations. Its membership, as Black Enterprise described it in 1994, comprises major corporations, small and minority-owned businesses, minority- and majority-controlled banks, cultural and educational institutions, and aspiring entrepreneurs. The Chamber provides business and entrepreneurial training classes, computer-application instruction, business counseling, and technical assistance, and it serves minority- and female-owned businesses, seniors, and students through long-standing alliances with neighborhood chambers of commerce, industry associations, governmental agencies, major public and private enterprises, and academic institutions. In 1994 the Chamber facilitated the Tanqueray Emerging Entrepreneurs Program, run in association with Black Enterprise, which supplied four Chicago-area African American entrepreneurs with established mentors and the equivalent of $10,000 each in cash, equipment, and services. A business directory listing records the Chamber as established in 1933 and incorporated in Illinois, listing an address at 30 East Adams Street in Chicago.

Notes

Staged 2026-10-16 under CTL-GOV-006 (Scan Tail Wave 7 — 747 Program, FINAL Wave 13; seventh Scan Tail packet at the founder's 40-record size). Gate A (2026-10-16): Gate A CLEAR (hand-checked 2026-10-16): no Cosmopolitan Chamber of Commerce entity, alias, or variant in the live graph (3,910 entities). ID CTL-E-6282 free at staging. Supply: 747 Supply Ledger — Tier 4 corpus scan tail, corpus-gap-candidates-2026-10-15.json ranked #3210. The scan supplied the name string only; every fact is sourced under CTL-GOV-004. SCOPE GATE: Chicago's Black chamber of commerce, founded 1933, is a core Black business institution of the Black Metropolis era and after; in scope on its institutional line. Peer basis for typing: Organization/professional follows the live-graph peer Illinois State Black Chamber of Commerce (CTL-E-1252, Organization/professional). Identity guard: this record is the Chamber only. The graph separately homes the Cosmopolitan Church of Prayer (CTL-E-5526, Church/other); the Albert W. Johnson and “Mother Cobbs” material belongs to that Cosmopolitan church line, not to the Chamber, and no church facts are attributed to the Chamber here. Where secondary material conflates the two Cosmopolitan institutions, the Chamber's own history page and the 1994 Black Enterprise account govern this record. Vital status: ORGANIZATION — not applicable as a person. The Chamber presents itself as a continuing organization (its own history page, accessed 2026-10-16, describes current services and a legacy continued into the 21st century); no dissolution was found in opened sources. STATISTICS — Founding year 1933 is agreed by all three opened sources (Chamber history page; Black Enterprise, 1994; Manta directory). 1994 program figures: four entrepreneurs, the equivalent of $10,000 each in cash, equipment, and services, plus mentors (Black Enterprise, 1994). Directory figures are labeled estimates only: Manta (accessed 2026-10-16) estimates annual revenue of $94,508 and a staff of approximately 5 — undated directory estimates, not audited figures, and not asserted as current. No membership count was found in opened sources and none is asserted. MEDIA: photo HELD (no credible named candidate photograph opened at staging; candidate null in media_specs); chart in media_specs; video HELD (No matching-entity CTL Short in the Shorts Link Map (shorts-link-map-2026-10-15.json, 233 rows, checked by name and variants, 2026-10-16); no near-miss title found.); audio HELD (HELD: No CTL-owned or rights-cleared matching-entity audio exists at staging.); map N/A (organization record). MEDIA LAYER (staged 2026-10-16; full per-asset PHOTO-001 records + embed specs in the packet's staged JSON, Drive packet folder): map = N/A (Organization records carry no map slot in this packet; maps attach to places and institutions.) | visual_assets = HELD: | chart = FILLED (Created for this packet (CTL graphic, CTL-PHOTO-001 lane) from the record's sourced facts.) | video = HELD (No matching-entity CTL Short in the Shorts Link Map (shorts-link-map-2026-10-15.json, 233 rows, checked by nam) | audio = HELD (HELD: No CTL-owned or rights-cleared matching-entity audio exists at staging.)
