Combined Graph record U-07719 · provenance: build store (JSON graph), record CTL-E-6847.

Johnnie B. "Dusty" Baker Jr. (born June 15, 1949, in Riverside, California) played nineteen seasons as a major-league outfielder and then managed five clubs across twenty-five seasons, closing the game's longest championship wait in 2022. The Texas Senate's resolution honoring Baker, named here as a source, records that the Atlanta Braves drafted him in 1967, that he appeared in 2,039 games, made two All-Star teams, won a Gold Glove and two Silver Slugger Awards, and won the 1981 World Series as a Los Angeles Dodger; as a player he also appeared for San Francisco and Oakland. As a manager he led San Francisco, the Chicago Cubs (2003–2006), Cincinnati, Washington, and Houston, was named Manager of the Year three times, and in 2021 became the first manager to guide five different franchises to a division title. On November 5, 2022, his Houston Astros beat Philadelphia in Game 6 to win the World Series, making him, per the resolution, the third African American manager and the oldest manager to win the championship. His Chicago chapter — four Cubs seasons beginning with the 2003 division title run — ties one of baseball's defining managerial careers to the North Side.

Notes

Sports Encyclopedia roster CTL-SPE-0297. Firsts disposition: No first claimed. (The five-franchise division-title distinction is carried in the description as a sourced fact from the Texas Senate resolution and Wikipedia, not as a roster first.) Curator's Judgment (DRAFT): Baker's record is endurance made visible — a Hank Aaron-era outfielder who became the manager five franchises trusted, and whose Chicago years sit in the middle of that arc; the 2022 title closed the story but did not create it.
